Running is as much a mental challenge as it is a physical one. Many runners find that their body is ready to run longer. However, their mind lets them down, seeing it as too challenging to keep going mentally.
Five tips
Mental
Tell yourself you’re not tired, just mentally exhausted, and you can finish. Remember how good and proud you will feel when you are done; all the pain will be worth it. Choose a mantra, a short phrase you can repeat to help you stay focused, such as “one step at a time.” Research running quotes, and you’ll find a perfect phrase for you.
Music
Music is a runner’s best friend. Choose music you know will help you feel energized and ready to go. Create a playlist of all your favorite songs or high-energy ones; you can often find playlists, especially for runners, online. Add it to your iPod or other music device, and you’re ready.
Run with a buddy
Running alone can sometimes get boring. It’s a great idea to find a running buddy, taking on the pain and the gain together and helping to carry each other along. It’s okay to have a bit of friendly rivalry; a bit of competition doesn’t hurt. You can chat with each other to not think about the race, discuss what you will do after the race, etc.
Change your route
Riding the same old route will become dull and tiring. Experts suggest changing your way helps you run longer. If you know your way, you will be well aware of your surroundings and know how far you must go, making your run mentally challenging. Change your environment; you will notice the difference.
Imaging
Use imagery whenever you encounter a rough, complex area within your stroke. Imagine you are an Olympic athlete heading for the finish line with the whole crowd cheering your name. Imagine your running form is relaxed and flowing. You might imagine you are one of your favorite runners, running just like them.
Keep all these points; you’ll run longer and be more robust. Good luck and don’t forget how great you’ll feel when you’re done! !!
