No, the washing machine will not necessarily damage your favorite sneakers! Follow this unique lazy guide to give them a second life without getting tired.
In the middle of spring cleaning, you bring out your favorite sneakers, which have been in your closet for far too long. Problem: They are much dirtier than you remember. Here are our special machine wash instructions to restore their shine in the blink of an eye.
Before starting your washing cycle, a little clarification: not all sneakers survive the drum test. For example, sneakers in leather, suede, or nubuck risk getting damaged and damaging your appliances simultaneously! For canvas sneakers, on the other hand, there are no contraindications.
Pre-clean your canvas sneakers before putting them in the machine
- The first step? Clean your shoes beforehand. To do this, remove the mud, dust, or dirt that stains your sneakers by hand or using a dry brush.
- Then remove the laces so that the eyelets of the sneakers do not leave marks on them. Clarification: they also go through the machine, provided they are slipped in a net so they do not get tangled in the drum. If you prefer to wash them by hand, you can soak them in a water basin and Marseille soap before rinsing them with clear water.
- Remove the insoles from your sneakers.
- Apply liquid detergent to the most stubborn stains.
How to put your sneakers in the machine so they don’t get damaged
- Take your pair of sneakers and wrap each sneaker in a towel, then place them in a washing net. This technique is recommended to protect the fabric of tennis shoes and the drum walls against the repeated impact of the rubber soles of your shoes.
- Before starting your machine, add other things to your cycle: towels, tea towels, or even jeans, in short, thick clothes that cushion the pair’s blows. The program is now ready to launch!
- We recommend a cold wash for 20 minutes for canvas sneakers or a hot wash at 30 degrees maximum. If possible, choose a wool program, especially without spinning.
- Choose a liquid and mild detergent without fabric softener or bleach.
Take out and dry your canvas sneakers after machine washing
- When the wash is done, quickly remove your pair from the machine so they don’t retain moisture and stay locked in too long.
- Air-dry your sneakers, then enjoy your impeccable sneakers. Not wrong.
