This is the eternal question. Wearing black or white at a wedding is always complicated, but some solutions allow you to adopt these colors. Follow the leader.
Why is it tricky to wear white to a wedding?
White is delicate to wear since it is the bride’s color. We still remember the outcry that Pippa Middleton caused by wearing a long immaculate dress at the wedding of her sister Kate. Appearing a dress of this shade can be seen as a provocation, a way to steal the spotlight from the future bride and confuse the issue on the inevitable wedding photos. In short, a perfect way to quarrel with the bride, who is likely to be upset.
Why is it tricky to wear black to a wedding?
As for black, it is, of course, the color of mourning. Seeing one of their guests dressed entirely in black, the bride and groom may misinterpret it. Despite everything, there are solutions to wearing these two colors and playing down their meaning.
By small touches
If the total black or white look is rather inadvisable, these colors can very well appear in small touches. For example, pair a pretty alabaster blouse with a colorful midi skirt. White can also be displayed with patterns, such as a dress with gingham checks, or decorated with many floral prints, such as Alexa Chung’s dress at the wedding of her friend Aimee Philipps. On the other hand, black is easily worn over a pair of pumps or dressy black shorts.
With shades
If the long white dress is to be avoided, choosing colors close to it is possible. Nude, pale pink, or beige will perfectly replace ivory too close to a wedding dress’s shade. Fanatics of the little black dress, swap it for a navy version to avoid saddening the evening and upsetting the bride and groom. Like Victoria Beckham at William and Kate’s royal wedding, dark blue leaves a much happier impression. Diane Kruger insisted on wearing black to designer Jason Wu’s wedding in 2016. The actress’ brilliant trick? A dress covered in sequins!
Another sham: wear very bright colors as accessories to brighten up a little black dress, for example (neon belt, pumps, bag, and flashy fascinator…).
By mixing the two
Who would have believed it? Mixing black and white finally seems to be the miracle solution. While everything opposes them, these two colors balance each other ideally once together. To do well, we are inspired by Bianca Brandolini, an Italian it-girl who, by attending the wedding of her friend, the fashion editor Giovanna Battaglia, gave us a real lesson in style. This resulted in a long transparent black dress, whose strapless neckline was topped with white flowers and the waist belt with a perfect ribbon. The cure is found.
