A registered trademark, Paris Fashion Week refers to all the fashion shows in the French capital twice a year for women and two other times for men. It can also commonly refer to the week of Haute fashion shows, but this is an abuse of language.

When is Fashion Week in Paris?

It is the most popular fashion event. Paris Fashion Week always comes at the end of Fashion Month, after those in New York, London, and Milan, and is by far the busiest in fashion shows. Less underground than London and even more prosperous than those in Milan and New York, it represents the Holy Grail for most creators in the world. What is Haute Couture Fashion Week?

It was the fashion designer Charles Frederick Worth who, in 1858, created the first haute couture house, located at 7, rue de la Paix, in Paris. Since a decree of January 23, 1945, the expression “haute couture” has become a legally protected designation granted by the minister in charge of industry on the proposal of a commission led by the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture. At the time, houses that could claim to be haute couture were entitled to specific advantages in terms of price and the supply of raw materials.

How to obtain the haute couture label? 

“Haute couture” is, therefore, a French denomination granted each year to houses of all nationalities which meet a certain number of specific criteria (such as handmade clothing, for example) and adhere to the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture, which finds its origins in the 19th ^century. The official calendar includes “members,” “corresponding members,” and “guest members.”

Only sixteen houses have member status (some of which are no longer on the runway): Adeline André, Alexandre Vauthier, Alexis Mabille, Bouchra Jarrar, Chanel, Christian Dior, Franck Sorbier, Giambattista Valli, Givenchy, Jean Paul Gaultier, Julien Fournié, Maison Margiela, Maurizio Galante, Rabih Kayrouz, Schiaparelli, Stéphane Rolland.

The Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture is part of a larger entity called the  Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode. The latter’s primary mission is to support emerging brands, perpetuate the houses already established, protect intellectual property, and select the calendar of collections presented in Paris.

What is the haute couture calendar in 2023?

Haute Couture Fashion Week takes place twice a year in Paris. Unlike ready-to-wear, the silhouettes offered do not require long production times; they are presented just before each season,  in January for the spring-summer collections and in July for the autumn-winter supplies. During the two annual haute couture meetings organized in Paris, around thirty fashion houses show off their exceptional creations, which testify to authentic craftsmanship and contribute to their international influence. The collections presented there serve as a showcase for the houses: they will not be produced in large numbers but made to measure for customers who request them. Each piece is, therefore, unique, corresponding to these exceptional consumers’ desires (colors, details, length, etc.).

Haute Couture Fall-Winter 2023-2024 Fashion Week will occur in Paris from Monday, July 3 to Thursday, July 6, 2023. Spring-Summer 2024 Haute Couture Fashion Week 
It will occur in Paris from Monday, July 22, to Sunday, July 25, 2024. Haute Couture Fall-Winter 2024-2025 Fashion Week will happen in Paris from Monday, June 24  to Thursday, June 27, 2024.

What are the dates for Men’s Fashion Week in 2023?

Men’s Fashion Week in Paris takes place twice a year. Spring-Summer Men’s Fashion Week usually occurs in the last week of June. The Autumn-Winter Men’s Fashion Week takes place in mid-January. These two weeks of men’s fashion systematically precede haute couture.
