Lace has it all, but this delicate fabric requires precise and rigorous maintenance to maintain the quality of its fiber. Here are our tips for taking care of washing, drying, and storage.
For many years, whether on a dress, household linen, a top, or even lingerie, lace has imposed itself in our dressing rooms. Considered an elegant fabric, it is nonetheless fragile. Moreover, lace requires special maintenance to protect its delicate fiber, whether in terms of washing, drying, or storage. Before each washing of a lace piece, following the care code stated on the product label is recommended.
Can lace be machine washed?
The excellent news is lace can be machine washed, but only under certain conditions. As a reminder, this fabric is lovely and fragile; it is, therefore, advisable to constantly clean a lace textile at a temperature not exceeding 30°C and by choosing a delicate washing program. To maintain the fiber quality of lace fabric, it is also best to net the textile before putting it into the drum of the machine. On the laundry side, we prohibit using detergents and aggressive products, and we put on a natural detergent or mild soap for washing. Although machine washing is possible, hand washing is recommended.
Can lace be hand washed?
Yes, washing the lace by hand is possible, and it is even recommended. The idea is to pour lukewarm water into a basin, add soft and natural detergent and let the textile soak for a few minutes in the preparation. Then, rinse the fabric with clean water, wring it out, and hang it in the open air to dry.
How to dry the lace?
For a lightweight lace piece, hang it on a hanger so it can air dry. Lay it flat for a larger, heavier piece of lace so the weight doesn’t damage the fiber. On the other hand, it is strongly advised not to put your lace clothes in a dryer, which would damage the fiber.
Can the lace be ironed?
To iron lace, it is recommended to use the trick of the wet patch. This consists of placing a towel on its textile and passing the iron over it. The lace fabric under the towel will be ironed while protected from heat.
How to resurface lace?
Over time, or because of a stain, the lace can sometimes turn gray and lose its whiteness. To resurface a lace fabric, there is an effective and natural trick. In a basin of hot water, pour a few drops of bleach or percarbonate of soda (also ideal for removing stubborn stains ), then let the fabric soak for a few hours. Then rinse it with clear water. The textile will regain its shine.
How to store your lace clothes?
Lace is a delicate textile. In a closet or dressing room, hanging the most delicate pieces on a hanger is advisable. For folding, be careful not to suffocate the fabrics and leave space between each pile of clothing. In addition, it is advisable to place between each piece of lace tissue paper to preserve the quality of the fabric.
How to sew up your lace clothes?
Extremely fine and fragile, the lace can sometimes be damaged. Sewing a lace fabric is often complicated. The reason? It all depends on the weaving and manufacturing technique used. The idea is to call on a specialist in sewing and recovering delicate garments. Hand sewing is recommended for reworking a lace fabric, while machine sewing can complicate the exercise.
