I bought everything and anything as long as it was on sale. But I’ve since realized over the past few years how inefficient it is, and more importantly, it’s just plain wasteful. I ended up with items I don’t wear because they don’t represent my style.
So I’ve learned a few things over the years and’d like to share them with you. Here are some simple rules to follow to be fashionable on a limited budget while taking advantage of the sales.
12 practical tips for successful sales: Here are the 12 style tips that focus on good shopping practices:
Discover once and for all what suits you: invest in discovering your style. A style perfectly matches your personality and lifestyle and allows you to convey who you are.
Audit your wardrobe before buying new pieces: create new outfits with what you already have in your closet to create new looks.
Stop buying impulsively: every mistake you make would be better put towards a thoughtful wardrobe. And you don’t need another item like the four items you already have.
Shopping with a Plan: Think carefully about every purchase you make (I know I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating!). Does the piece you’re about to buy work with most of your other clothes, or is it a look that will be obsolete in a few weeks or months)? Is it on your priority shopping list?
Leave plenty of time to find what you need: if you know, you have a special event coming up, like a wedding or a special dinner. So don’t panic about buying something at the last minute. It’s a recipe for ending up with an outfit you only wear once. You better find a company that you can wear in your current wardrobe.
Don’t buy too many trendy items: Trending items are clothes with exaggerated style elements that are likely to only be fashionable for a short time. Please don’t spend too much on them.
Spend most of your budget on good quality essential items: like jackets, coats, pants, and skirts. The more classic these elements are and the less exaggerated design elements, the longer they will last without looking dated. Buy most items in fabrics such as wool, jersey, and silk.
Don’t overspend on wardrobe basics: shop for great deals on t-shirts, camisoles, and tank tops. These items have a limited lifespan and are available in many stores. So there is no need to spend much money on each item.
Update your look with accessories: Rather than buying new outfits every season, update your look with new shoes, jewelry, scarves, and a handbag. It is also a way to add color and trend.
Never Compromise: If an item can’t be changed or you’re not willing to spend the money on a change, don’t buy it.
Permanently replace key components: just before they wear out. These items are good to buy at the end of the sales season.
Plan where to find what you need: With your shopping list, work out priority items and where you’ll find them. And remember that quality does not necessarily mean price; buy for good shopping. Some places to consider are:
- Online, such as on eBay or an online store.
- Second-hand stores, especially in good neighborhoods, where you can find discount brand-name clothing.
- End-of-season sales.
